Relationships can be an important source of connection for us, and they can also present challenges and painful struggle. This is especially true in our primary relationships with spouses and partners. When this happens, couple therapy has the potential to rebuild and deepen connection, trust, and closeness. It takes courage to reach out for help as a couple, but the rewards can be great.
My approach to working with couples is rooted in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, developed by Dr. Susan Johnson. As in my work with individuals, I take a client-centered approach with couples, receiving each partner with deep respect and without judgment. We will work together to understand the negative cycles that have developed in your relationship, and begin to shift those into positive ways of connecting, fostering closeness and safety. Therapy may last anywhere from a few weeks to several months.
I welcome working with couples of all ages and sexual orientations, and with couples who are newly together, or in longstanding relationships.
